Two people are recovering from injuries suffered in a head-on crash involving a school bus and a minivan in the town of Chenango.

Authorities say the collision occurred at about 8:45 a.m. June 2  on Smith Hill Road.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, a Dodge Caravan veered into the opposite lane and slammed into the Harpursville Central School District bus.

The twelve Harpursville High School students on the bus were being transported to BOCES on Glenwood Road. Investigators say the students apparently were uninjured.

The bus driver, Cindy Wilcox of Harpursville, complained of neck and back pain. She was taken to Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.

The operator of the minivan, 17-year-old Katarina Stockton of Conklin, was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment of minor injuries.

The students were evaluated at the scene before they were taken to BOCES by another bus.

Investigators say Stockton said the minivan's brakes "felt funny" just before the crash. She was ticketed for failure to reduce speed under special conditions due to the wet roadway and curves. She also was cited for driving left of pavement markings for crossing into the oncoming lane.

Smith Hill Road was closed for more than 90 minutes after the crash.
