Earlier this month, Metallica announced that they would be performing with Chinese classical pianist Lang Lang at this year’s Grammy telecast on Jan. 26. They just announced which song they’ll be playing together.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, guitarist Kirk Hammett said they have chosen Metallica’s hit single ‘One’ for their collaboration on Jan. 26. “It’s gonna be completely insane,” Hammett said. “Lang Lang has interjected himself into the song in a way I don’t think anyone else has ever done in the course of our career. He’s gonna be playing major parts of the song. He’s gonna be playing through the melody.”

Hammett also gave an indication as to how Lang Lang’s piano will be integrated into the song: “He’s gonna be weaving in and out of my guitar solos, which is amazing for me, because I’ve never played with another instrument that’s been able to do that so effortlessly.”

It’s possible that by performing ‘One,’ Metallica are being a bit subversive. After all, the song appeared on ‘ … And Justice for All,’ which was nominated for the first-ever Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance award at the 1989 Grammys. However, in one of the most embarrassing moments in Grammy history, the album lost to Jethro Tull‘s ‘Crest of a Knave.’
