Police were called to North and Chapin streets around 1:07 p.m. Tuesday when several shots rang out.

Speaking at the scene shortly after the shooting, Binghamton police chief Joseph Zikuski said a man who was wounded in the incident drove himself to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.

Zikuski said the man's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. He said the suspect may have sped away from the scene in a black car.

Although Zikuski spoke of only one person being shot, city police had received a report from the hospital of two men who arrived at the emergency department with apparent gunshot wounds.

Investigators were searching for evidence in the front yard of a house at 34 North Street. A section of Chapin Street was secured with police crime tape.

A police dog was brought to the scene as part of the investigation.
