New York State Police forensics experts are examining human remains found by a man walking his dog in Chemung County November 29.

The man was walking on the Lackawanna Rail Trail in Elmira at 11 a.m. when he came across the bones.

Authorities say the remains may be those of a homeless man but have no information about his identity or cause of death.  Investigators said the body had been at that location for months, possibly since July or even earlier.

So far, investigators said they found signs of animals chewing on the bones but no obvious indication of trauma.
