The director of the George F. Johnson Memorial Library in Endicott is planning to retire this year.

Edward Dunscombe has been working for the village library since December 1980. He became its director in 2003.

Dunscombe intends to retire on June 29. The library board of trustees has launched a search for a new director.

Dunscombe hopes a successor will be able to start a few weeks before he wraps up his duties so there can be a smooth transition in leadership.

Dunscombe started work at the facility as a reference librarian. He performed other jobs at the library before become its director.

While he will miss the library, Dunscombe said he is looking forward to retirement.
