A specific site for a lithium ion battery manufacturing plant on Endicott's Huron Campus may be selected within the next two months.

A consortium called Imperium3 New York plans to develop a facility that will produce batteries at the property that once was home to the sprawling IBM complex.

Broome County-based C4V is a member of the consortium preparing to set up the factory. Its president, Shailesh Upreti, said engineers have been looking a various buildings on the Huron Campus.

Upreti said the consortium's engineering team has been working with Huron representatives to find the location on the campus that will be best suited for the factory.

Upreti said a site for the operation likely will be chosen by the end of the year.

Chris Pelto, president of Huron Real Estate Associates, said the new factory could occupy between 200,000 and 400,000 square feet of space on the campus on the North Side of Endicott.

Although the production facility is to be set up in an existing building, new construction could be considered based on the consortium's future needs.

Upreti said the first lithium ion batteries should be manufactured at the site in the fourth quarter of 2019.
