Reaction is coming quickly to New York Governor’s State of the State Address from local leaders and community groups.

The Governor outlined a number of initiatives with one point being praised by Democrat Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo of Endwell and Bainbridge Republican Assemblyman Clifford Crouch.  In comments provided by the Assembly media office, Crouch says he is fully behind a call for more measures to fight sexual harassment.

Meanwhile Crouch said he disagrees with Governor Andrew Cuomo blaming the federal government for high local taxes and threatening to sue over tax reform that eliminates residents’ ability to deduct high local and state taxes on federal returns.  The Republican says the state has long been responsible for unfunded mandates that drive up local taxes.

The Governor also has proposed legislation to allow residents to vote up to 12 days before a scheduled election under early voting. Another reform would allow for same-day voting registration and the automatic enrollment of new voters when they visit a state agency.

An anti-terrorism initiative would involve a three digit tip line to report suspected terror activity and a regulation covering heavy vehicle rentals.  That measure would require renters to present a driver’s license and an additional form of identification to rent a vehicle weighing more than 10,000 pounds.
