It's National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. This takes place each year the week before Thanksgiving and is associated with raising awareness of the growing number of individuals and families that are without food or homeless.

We don't often see them and I think we sometimes have a distorted view of the face of homelessness. Most of us imagine a person with ragged clothes sleeping in an alley way or on a cardboard box, and although that is often part of the portrait, there are also many families living in their car or going from shelter to shelter.

The key to eliminating or greatly reducing homelessness is to get involved. You can do that by participating in local fundraisers and volunteer efforts to help your community!

Tuesday, the students of Davis College will participate in a "Sleep Out" to experience what it's like to be homeless. They will sleep outside in their own homemade cardboard beginning at 5:30pm.

David campus will also host 'Music for the Mission' beginning at 7pm and featuring live music from When Oceans Rise and Jared Campbell.

Tickets are $5 with all the proceeds going to the Homeless Coalition of the Southern Tier and the doors will open at 6:30p.

The Davis College Men’s and Women’s basketball teams will wrap up the week with “Hoops for the Homeless”on November 21st and 22nd anyone donating supplies will receive free admission to the game, awareness wrist bands will also be available for purchase for $1 or more to participate in the Half Time Half Court Shot competition.
Games on November 21st Women at 5p, Men at 7p.
