Less Booze at Holiday Parties?

Company parties are a time for employees to get together out of work and talk about other things besides shop. I've always enjoyed going to our company parties because everyone there seems to get along so well. Plus the free food and free booze were always a nice perk as well. We had ours this past Sunday in Downtown Binghamton, and we all had a good time.

I had a few Strange But True stories this morning about company parties that blew my mind. The first one was saying that only 80% of companies will hold a holiday party this year. I thought it would be higher than that. And of those companies, only about half of them plan on serving alcohol. According to Time, that's a major drop from last year. Could it be in part to all the sexual harassment cases as of late? Maybe they want to keep everyone sober so nobody does anything stupid.

Then, I found this story about Christmas parties from The Daily Mail. According to a new survey, 10% of people say they caught an STD from a co-worker after hooking up at a company Christmas party. That number seems kind of high to me, but what do I know? Tis the season for giving... but not THAT kind of giving.

So if you are going to your company Christmas party, have fun, don't drink too much, and if you do decide to hook up with a co-worker, make sure it's consensual first, and make sure you wear protection.
