Newly Released Kurt Cobain Death Scene Letter Apparently Written by Courtney Love

Grungebook Tumblr

Earlier this week, Kurt Cobain conspiracy theorists might have thought they’d seen fresh evidence of foul play in the Nirvana frontman’s 1994 death, but there seems to be a much more mundane explanation for the contents of a newly released note discovered at the scene.

A portion of the note, found tucked in Cobain’s wallet, reads “Do you Kurt Cobain take Courtney Michelle Love to be your lawful shredded wife, even when she’s a bitch with zits and siphoning all (your) money for doping and whoring” — leading some to believe that Cobain was unhappy with Love at the time of his passing, and prompting fresh conjecture regarding the naggingly persistent (and repeatedly debunked) rumors that he was murdered instead of committing suicide.

As tends to be the case on the internet, however, people didn’t have the full story. The full contents of the note add a different spin to the excerpt that was initially posted, reading: “Do you Kurt Cobain take Courtney Michelle Love to be your lawful shredded wife, even when she’s a bitch with zits and siphoning all [your] money for doping and whoring. Will you promise to f— her at least once a week, O.K.” Multiple fans have also reaffirmed the belief — earlier expressed by a number of UCR commenters — that the handwriting in the note is Love’s, not Cobain’s, and the whole thing is probably just one more example of the ugly mess than can happen when outsiders try to interpret someone else’s relationship.
