The new unit was acquired from Sutphen Fire Apparatus of Ohio for $997,500.

Johnson City fire chief Rob Jacyna said the 100-foot aerial truck is lighter than the unit it is replacing. He said it will better serve the needs of the department because it's lighter and more maneuverable.

Village firefighters have started training on the new truck, which arrived in Johnson City on Friday. Jacyna said the unit should be able to go into full service within the next three weeks.

The truck was on Reynolds Road Sunday afternoon for a training session when it responded to a nearby car crash at the Oakdale Mall.
