After years of rumors and very little in the way of official photos or detailed information, the first footage of Outkast's Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix in the upcoming biopic about the classic-rock legend has finally surfaced online.

And while it's not quite the fiery performance clip we were hoping for, it does give us our first real glimpse of Andre Benjamin as Hendrix. And he nails the look and vocal cadence. You can watch the 80-second clip from 'All Is By My Side' above.

In it, Hendrix is sitting in a club chatting up a woman about his upcoming set at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, a performance that would break him the U.S. and launch the career of one of rock's greatest icons.

Here's a scene of the real Hendrix in action at Monterey, where he closed his set by setting his guitar on fire. The act made him a star.

In the 'All Is By My Side' scene, Hendrix zeroes his charm in on a woman he invites to Monterey. So, apparently the movie -- which is due to open later this summer -- will have as much to do with the guitarist's personal life as his professional one. Which isn't too surprising, since the film focuses on the years 1966-67, before he became a huge star.

Meanwhile, Benjamin and his Outkast partner Big Boi are reuniting for a handful of festival shows this summer, including one at Coachella. Unfortunately, the duo won't be doing much more than that. Both guys have stated that a new Outkast record isn't part of the reunion deal.
