A 36-year-old Broome County man convicted of possessing a loaded gun near Binghamton High School could spend two decades in state prison.

Amin Rashid of Johnson City was found guilty in April of two counts of perjury and two weapon possession counts by a Broome County jury.

Prosecutors say Rashid was sentenced Thursday to 20 years to life in prison. He was sentenced as a persistent violent felony offender.

Rashid had been accused of possessing a loaded .38 caliber revolver at a residence at 99 Oak Street. The six-story apartment building is located just west of the high school. Binghamton police arrested Rashid on September 7.

According to the Broome County District Attorney's Office, Rashid falsely testified under oath during a grand jury proceeding last October. He was indicted for a perjury by another grand jury.
