Award Show season is here. It's the time of year where we are bombarded with all kinds of these TV events.

I will admit upfront that these award recipients probably deserve the recognition they receive for their contributions to the arts, but it seems every year more and more of these type of show are added.

For example, already this month (January) we just had the People's Choice Awards and the Golden Globe Awards. There are many more, including the Critic Choice Awards and Academy Award nominations.

In January and February only, there are at least 23 award shows, nominations and presentations. That is crazy!

I am not a fan of these shows, except for the opening monologue, since you never know how they will play out. I guess it's the endless parade of rich,  famous people getting huge recognition (and sometimes cool gift bags) along with a golden award figurine, that bother and bore me.

Some shows have become too R rated, and I think it's gone a bit too far. Believe me, I'm no prude. I can swear just as well as anyone else.

I think there should be award shows for people like you and me. Can you imagine getting recognized for your hard work, along with a nice trophy and maybe some cash? I'm sure you work just as hard or harder than most actors and musicians.

Can we go back to just 3 or 4 award shows a year? Maybe then, they'll be more of an event, rather than let's see how many awards shows we can create to bestow another statue on the same film, actor, musician, song, etc.
