Today is the day that marijuana users celebrate. It's 4:20 day. I personally do not partake. I have in the past, and if marijuana was to become legal in New York, I might partake again in moderation.

I don't understand why New York has not made marijuana legal yet. There are nine states in America that have already legalized marijuana for recreational use as well as Washington DC. Medical marijuana is legal in New York and 28 other states, but it is still illegal to use it if it is not prescribed by a doctor. And I know people will talk about marijuana being the gateway to other drugs but, I know people that have smoked marijuana most of their life and have never gone on to 'harder' Drugs.

I found an article today on Business Insider that said the marijuana industry was expected to post nearly 10 billion dollars in sales last year. Think of the money New York State can make off taxes on marijuana. And if they are pulling in a lot of money on that, maybe they could lower taxes on other things. I know, that would never happen. Besides, they wouldn't be wasting so much money trying to catch and prosecute people who use marijuana and that would save taxpayers even more. The states where you can legally smoke marijuana include; Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington. Washington DC also allows the recreational use of marijuana.

I think it's only a matter of time before smoking weed will be legal in all 50 states. Until then, fans of the green leaf will continue to celebrate 4:20 in private.

Have you ever wondered where the term '4:20' comes from? Check out my blog from last year below.
