As we continue to face the winter weather ahead baseball fans can look forward to spring training which begins next month.  With the excitement of a new season comes the speculation of what players will be assigned to play on the New York Mets Double-A affiliate in Binghamton.

That speculation amplified with the Mets announcement on Friday that Tim Tebow has been invited to spring training with the New York Mets.  Tebow is on a list of nine spring training invitees that have been added to the Big League club's spring training camp.

Tebow who won the 2007 Heisman Trophy and played quarterback in the NFL is heading into his second season in professional baseball.  Last year Tebow split time with Class A Mets' affiliates in Columbia in the South Atlantic League and Port St. Lucie in the Florida State League,  In 126 total games he hit eight home runs, drove in 52 runs and had a batting average of .226.

The next step up the ladder from Class A is Binghamton.  A strong spring training could send Tebow to NYSEG Stadium and a spot on the Rumble Ponies' roster.  Everywhere Tebow played last season saw bigger than usual crowds and that could be a big boost to the Rumble Ponies especially if it occurs early in the season.
