Sunday morning at 2 am, we lose an hour of sleep. Yep, Daylight Saving Time is returning! But is it necessary these days?

It started out, in Germany, as a way of saving energy and to have more sunlight later in the day. Later, businesses took advantage of the longer day and "DST" stayed around.

In 2007, Congress voted to extend the period Daylight Saving Time lasts, so it is now about two-thirds of the year. A study on the effectiveness of "DST" has been done and Congress can, after seeing the research, vote to end "DST" if they choose.

My personal thinking is that with all the electronic devices there are and technology being so advanced, Daylight Saving Time is not needed. I like waking up with the sun on weekdays. I am less grumpy. It's not up to me though.

One thing Daylight Saving Time is good for, we get to remind you to change the batteries in your smoke detectors and check your Carbon Monoxide detectors too.
