So, I've been at 99.1 The Whale since radio was invented (maybe that's a bit of a stretch) and that means I've accumulated a decent amount of vacation time.
But for me, is it really a true, uninterrupted vacation?
The answer is...

No.
Who's fault is that?
My place of work, employees, boss, or is it me?
The mobile phone is always with me.
I can't seem to leave it alone or shut it off.
My laptop is along for the vacation also, with internet access to work.
I have attempted to just check work e-mails once per day after 5pm, but after seeing how many messages pile up, I have gone back to checking every 3 hours or so...every day.

Another thing I do, is tune in every so often to the radio station to make sure all is sounding well.
Why?
I have great staff in place to take care of those things when I'm gone.
Some may call that micro-managing, and they would be right.
If I could just break away for 7 days - no e-mail, text, social media, tuning in, making phone calls, that would be a miracle.

When you are a manager, I think it's just too hard to let go for even a few days.
And that's why I never have a true vacation.
My fault completely.

Am I the only person who does this, or do you find yourself connecting with work in some way while on vacation?
Is there a way to just let it go for a few days?
