Having read a lot of books on the history of punk, I find this video extremely amusing. Punk is a lot of different things, as is every musical genre but of course one of them is being original and innovative. Every one wants to say they did it first. Thus, the banter between "Ian Rubbish" and Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash going back and forth about who they copied as far as songs and album art and who copied them.

Punk is also known for it's simplicity musically speaking. There is something to be said for someone who can make a great song and not need to utilize all the possible notes in all the possible octaves of their instrument. As you can tell, the song they perform at the end really only has two lines and the chord progression is pretty straight forward. "Hey Police man, I'll put my boot in your face!" A lot of punk, was the attitude and Mr. Rubbish certainly portrays that. So congrats on making a brilliant parody of punk rock Saturday Night Live, with the blessing of The Clash of course!
