How much to tip a delivery person has always been an interesting topic of discussion.

Everyone has a different perspective of how to tip and how much. The reason I bring this up, is recently I saw on a social media page, the topic of tipping a delivery person. The writer had ordered some food from an establishment to be delivered at home.

When the delivery person arrived, a short conversation ensued, something like 'How are you today."  The delivery person stated that it had been a bad day because at each delivery, the tip was never more than 3 dollars. My thought is, a 20 percent minimum would be an acceptable tip.

Not knowing the total cost, I'm thinking maybe 15 dollars including tax, 20 percent would be 3 dollars.) That's what this person did tip the delivery person. The responses to that tip were surprising to me. Some thought that was a good tip, some mentioned that it depended on the attitude of the delivery person, and some expressed extreme outrage that the tip should be at minimum 5 dollars. Anything less is just being a cheapskate.

There were comments that a delivery person has to drive their own vehicle (most times true) and pay for their own gas (not always true.) So, I ask you, what do you tip someone who delivers food to your home? If you are/were a delivery person, what's your take on this?
