How many hours upon hours have you spent trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube? It was one of the big sellers in the 80’s, and is still a puzzle that I still haven’t solved myself -- like, at all.

It looks like this might be the fastest time in the world for a robot to solve a Rubik’s Cube (The fastest time for a human to solve a Rubik’s cube is currently 4.9 seconds), but the group is still waiting for the official verification from Guinness World Records.

Software engineers Jay Flatland and Paul Rose built this robot that uses four webcams to solve a jumbled Rubik’s Cube in just over one second... 1.019 seconds to be exact! The information received by the four webcams is fed into their computer using a complicated algorithm to move the cubes into place, then a set of motors swivel the cubes into the perfect orientation.
