Renovations are underway at NYSEG Stadium for the 2019 Binghamton Rumble Ponies baseball season.  Visitors to the ball park over the past few days have witnessed the removal of the over 6,000 seats as part of the $5.1 million improvement plan that has begun.

All the blue seats that have been there since the stadium opened in 1992 have been removed.  New seats will be installed before the 2019 season begins.  The new seats will have cup holders and feature a red and blue palette resembling the official colors of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Late last week a crew of workers was finishing up the seat removal.  It is an eerie site...a stadium with no seats and rows and rows of concrete visible where the individual seats once were anchored.

The installation of the new seats is part of the major renovation plan outlined several weeks ago.  Funds from New York State, The City of Binghamton and team owner John Hughes are underwriting the project.

Along with new seating other planned improvements include:  New fencing and netting at field level and home plate, a new sound system, a renovated home clubhouse, new video boards, turf replacements and structural upgrades.

The Rumble Ponies open the home portion of their 2019 season on April 11 against the Erie SeaWolves.
