We've had our share of natural disasters here. Floods, tornadoes...  We also know how important disaster workers are. Here's your chance to step up!

The Southern Tier Regional Volunteer Center is asking for you to sign up to be a volunteer in times of disaster. As a thank you, the first 300 people who sign up to be skilled disaster volunteers will get a free disaster preparedness kit.

It's a pretty simple process and commitment. Sign up here, create your profile, and choose how you will volunteer.

The goal of this website is to help create a statewide volunteer network to spring into action when needed. I love the idea! We all know how slow "official" response can be.

Only residents of Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Delaware, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Tompkins Counties are considered for these volunteer opportunities.

What a wonderful way to give back!
