Area law enforcement officers are heading out in force to crack down on drunk driving.

The agencies are participating in the statewide STOP-DWI Halloween Crackdown Enforcement effort through November 1.

Checkpoints and increased patrols are planned all around the state to look for impaired drivers.

The weekend crackdown is one of many statewide enforcement initiative promoted by the New York State STOP-DWI Association.

Authorities say the continued efforts across New York have resulted in significant reductions  in the numbers of alcohol and drug related fatalities.
