The New York State Gaming Commission is reviewing a letter it received from Governor Andrew Cuomo December 26 urging the reopening of Southern Tier bids for a fourth casino license.

The Gaming Facility Location Board December 17th recommended a license go to a proposed casino in Seneca County in what had been deemed the Southern Tier/Finger Lakes Region, shutting out bids by Tioga Downs in Nichols and Traditions at the Glen in the Town of Union.

Cuomo’s letter to the commission expressed hope for even greater competition for the final license than had come in the first round.

December 23, the owners of Traditions at the Glen and Tioga Downs held a joint news conference announcing they were joining forces to try to get the un-awarded fourth license for the true Southern Tier.

In his letter to the Gaming Commission, Cuomo said the region is in dire need of jobs and has one of the worst economies in the state and could greatly benefit from the development of a casino/resort.
