With the news that the next iPhone and all it's bells and whistles will be revealed comes a cautionary warning: think budget before you buy.

With the each new phone and it's new "toys" (and I mean Android too), comes the need to use more data. And that leads to bigger bills. The cell carriers know this and are adjusting their rates accordingly to get the most out of you.

The Huffington Post did a great job of breaking down this warning, something I have been saying for years.

Apparently, everytime we buy the next big thing, our data use nearly doubles. Unless you have an unlimited data plan, and who does these days, that could mean a big hit to the old pocketbook.

This is one of the reasons that I, being  frugal, do not have a tablet or a cutting edge phone. I refuse to compromise my household budget and what little disposable income I have to do recreational activities with on a mobile device.

Think about it. How much did you pay for your last phone? $200? $300? Not me! I paid twenty dollars! That's it. Guess what I did with the other $180? I paid off a bill.

So, if you are dealing with a tight budget these days or living paycheck to paycheck, take a look at what your mobile devices are costing you. Ask yourself what you need as opposed to what you want.
