Big changes are coming to Galaxy Brewing Company as it announces plans to shut down its five-year-old restaurant in downtown Binghamton.

The company informed customers of its decision in a Facebook post. Galaxy said the bar and tasting room at 41 Court Street will remain open after the restaurant is closed.

The post said the restaurant portion "will cease operation at the end of this year."

According to the announcement, the company plans to expand its production brewing operation in 2019.

Galaxy Brewing intends to shift its "mission from that of a local brew pub to one of a production brewery and tasting room." The announcement indicated the company hopes to eventually supply the country with its "unique beers."

The bar and tasting room are to continue operating until the company is able to move into a newly-constructed facility.

Galaxy Brewing owners Michael and Seth Weisel were not available to provide specific details about the company's plans.

Galaxy opened its doors in the space once occupied by Phil's Gift Shop in August 2013.
