Our weekly distraction that actually educates is here. Today we've got some history, some zoology, and economic education in the mix.

1. About selfies. The first one was taken way long before cell phones were even invented. In 1839 . . . a guy in Philadelphia named Robert Cornelius took a self-portrait while he was experimenting with a new camera.

2. Sometimes bad people are on the radar long before they are taken seriously. Perfect example? The "New York Times" first mentioned Adolf Hitler on November 21, 1922.  The article said, "Hitler's anti-Semitism was not so violent or genuine as it sounded." Hat tip to CBS News!

3. The only non-human to ever testify before Congress was Sesame Street's Elmo in 2002. The topic was music education.

4. Let's talk animal sex. Snakes have two sex organs. Matches the tongue! I know what you're thinking, so to find out how they have sex, look here.

5. A fan of the TV show The Walking Dead? All zombies you see on screen had to pass zombie school.

6. An Eagle's eyesight is so good that it can see an ant from the top of a 10 story building!

7. Over 33 million profiles on Facebook belong to dead people. Some are memorial pages now.

8. The thirteen Club (since this past Friday was Friday the 13th) was a club formed in the 1880's that tried to debunk all the superstitions about the number 13 but doing them all. Five U.S. Presidents were members; Theodore Roosevelt, Chester A. Arthur, Grover Cleveland, Benjamin Harrison and William McKinley.  Only McKinley had bad luck. He was assassinated.

9. For every $1000 in music sold (whether online or in stores), the average musician makes only $23.40 from it.

10.  You know the patriotic yellow "Support Our Troops" ribbons? Guess what? They are trademarked . . . by the Canadian government and can only be used legally with their permission.  D'oh!
