On my last vacation, I encountered something that, well, haven't experienced in a long, long time. Maybe it's because I visit the same place whenever I need to gas up my vehicle.

One day during my time off from the rat race, I stopped at a gas station in Northeast Pennsylvania to fill up the tank. Before I could get out to do the self serve thing, an attendant came up to my car window and asked how much gas I wanted.

What? Full service? Did I just get transported back to the 1960s? I can't remember the last time this happened to me. I asked for a fill-up, and while that was going on, the attendant even washed my car windows. It was a weird, but nice feeling. Full service gas. I was almost expecting the person to ask to check my oil and water levels like Gomer did on the Andy Griffith Show. That did not happen.

But, that's not all. I had my dogs with me, and the attendant even brought over a couple of treats for them. OK, full service, washing the windows, friendly attendant, and handing out treats to my dogs. I'm a New Yorker. I don't know how to react to this kind of service and friendliness. But I did my best...with a tip.
