I recently stayed in a hotel in Memphis which turned out to be one of the most unique hotel staying experiences of my life. The hotel where I stayed has ducks that live inside it. Not stuffed ducks. Real ducks. Ducks who swim in a fountain in the lobby and who put on a show for not only those staying in the hotel but also for the public twice a day.

It's pretty safe to say that my hotel experience is one I won't ever forget and I admit that it was actually really fun. Anyone who has ever stayed in a luxury hotel will tell you one of the biggest reasons for staying in a hotel like this is to be pampered, but when do things go too far? Well, here's an example: the Ritz-Carlton in Miami Beach has a "tanning butler" and that person's one and only responsibility is to rub guests down with sunscreen. At the Ritz in Dallas, they have a "guacamologist." If you're thinking that must be someone who specializes in making guacamole, you'd be right.

Here are four other pretty crazy services offered at high-end hotels.

  • 1

    Fragrance Butler

If you're staying at the Rosewood Hotels and Resorts and are hit with the desire to change up your perfume or cologne, an assortment of perfumes and colognes will be brought to your room - on a silver platter- any time of the day or night.

    Doggie Surfing Lessons

If you've got a dog and you're staying at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort in San Diego you might be offered surfing lessons for your dog. That's right. Dog surfing lessons. There's a package that comes with a one-night stay, and a pair of K-9 board shorts.

    Pillow Expert

This is one service I can actually get behind because I'm a pillow person. If my pillow isn't just right, my sleep suffers and then the world suffers because I'm a grouch the next day. Many hotels are now offering a "sleep concierge" to help you choose the right pillow. But wait, there's more. If you can't fall asleep, some of these sleep concierges will send up a glass of warm milk and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

    Date Planner

Any concierge can make dinner reservations but it takes a special kind of person to help guests plan out dates and even wedding proposals. These people are sometimes called a "Cupid Concierge" or a "Proposal Artist."
