Fire Destroys Township Offices and Equipment in Susquehanna County

Officials in a southern Susquehanna County municipality are trying to figure out their next step after fire destroyed the Township building January 2.

The Hop Bottom Hose Company arrived to find the entire Gibson Township building engulfed in flames at around 2:30 p.m.

Workers had just left for the day about a half hour earlier.

In addition to township offices, the fire destroyed records, historic documents and three snow plows.

Officials are assessing the damage and weighing options for continuing with township business.

Surrounding municipalities are offering use of their highway equipment by Gibson.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries.
