Over a half dozen counties are being assessed by teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency following recent flash flooding.

FEMA teams have been working on damage assessments in Broome, Chenango, Delaware and Tioga Counties among others in the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes and Central New York.

In order to get federal recovery aid, damage estimates have to top $28.29 million.

A disaster declaration must be granted before federal funding for infrastructure repairs would be available.

The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services officials have been traveling through the region.

There is no word on when it may be announced if the requirements for a disaster declaration have been reached.
