Federal Funding Sought for Westover Development Study

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer of New York says he wants the Federal Government to pay for a study dealing with the redevelopment of the former Air Force property in Westover that was home to BAE Systems before it was destroyed in the 2011 flood.

The 27 acre site has been cleared and a number of ideas for new development have been bandied about but no solid plans have been announced.

The AFP 59 site had housed Remington in the 1940s, an Ozalid warehouse, General Electric through the 60s, 70s and into the 80s, then Martin Marietta and Lockeed Martin before becoming the home to BAE Systems until the massive September 2011 flood which forced BAE to move to Endicott and the Department of Defense to tear down the massive building.
