Fatal Standoff Investigated in Chenango County

Chenango County Sheriff’s officials are still investigating a standoff in the Town of Lincklaen August 24 that ended with the discovery of the gunman’s body in the home on County Route 12.

Deputies and New York State Troopers were called with a report of a 23 year old man shot in the arm and the alleged shooter still inside.  Authorities say John Hart barricaded himself inside the house and attempts to contact him were made over an eight hour period.

Sheriff’s officials say Hart was found in the home dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The man who had been shot in the arm was transported to Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse and was in stable condition.
