Matt Porcari loved his life, family, friends and Owego, he served God at his local church, and he served his community for 17 years as a firefighter and became Captain of Owego Fire Department Company #3 where he would give the ultimate sacrifice… battling a house fire on January 21st in Newark Valley, NY.

Matt took care of his community! In 2011 when the town was devastated by flooding, he elected to help others while abandoning efforts to save his own home.

When Matt learned of Hurricane Sandy’s devastation downstate, he organized his fellow fire-fighters and came to his brotherhoods’ aid. His team standing in for local firefighters, and going on calls for them so they could tend to their own homes affected by Sandy.
