Fall Out Boy New Album ‘Save Rock and Roll’ Review

Back in the day, ok so like ten years ago....I was a big fan of Fall Out Boy. Even if someone did not like the band, I would argue that their album 'Take This To Your Grave' is one of the catchiest albums of all time.

There is no denying that many of the songs stay stuck in your head long after you listen to the album once. With that being said, I was curious and excited to see what their new album would bring to the table. Would it be the same Fall Out Boy from years earlier? Would the songs be as entertaining? Was I getting too old to appreciate the innocence of the music they wrote?

Well, although I don't think 'Save Rock and Roll' is as catchy and good as 'Take This To Your Grave' and "From Under the Cork Tree" it is clear to me that the band has evolved. They seem a little more hipper to me, less dramatic on the girl issues (don't worry those issues are still there in their lyrics) and more collaborations with other artists.

I am not a fan of their work with Elton John on the song "Save Rock and Roll." Not because I don't like Elton John, I'm a piano player so of course I love Elton but I don't think he sounds well with Fall Out Boy. It just is not a good fit for me personally. Am I alone on this?

The band also worked with Big Sean on "the Mighty Fall" which sounds more cohesive to me. Over all the album is growing on me each time I listen to it. I'm loving "The Phoenix" and "My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark" which I think was a fabulous choice for their first single. I can't get "so light'em up up up" out of my head! It just really gets me going and want to work for something!

I will continue to dance around in my kitchen to the new cd, which I enjoy more with each listen. If at first you have your doubts, I recommend giving it a second spin to really appreciate it. I give it a 7 out of 10. What do you think?
