Broome County residents who do a lot of traveling on toll roads across the northeast are now able to buy E-Z Pass tags at the Broome County Clerk’s Office so they can skip toll booths while on the road.

The pass tags are only for private passenger vehicles and are good on thruways in 16 states in the Northeast and Midwest. The cost is $25 per tag that is credited to the customer’s account.

County Clerk Joseph Mihalko says more local drivers can conveniently save time and money using the E-Z Pass system that scans the tags through electronic overhangs in the E-Z Pass lanes.  Mihalko says New York State is moving to a cashless tolling system by the end of 2020.  Passenger vehicle motorists who don’t have E-Z Pass by then would have their vehicle information recorded and a bill would be mailed to them at a higher cost than if paid through the electronic system.

Motorcycles and commercial vehicles should contact the Thruway Authority at 1-800-333-8655 for information.
