For some people in the Twin Tiers, the most-anticipated day of the summer is when the Cider Mill in Endicott opens its doors to launch another season.

The Cider Mill in recent years had its official opening on August 16. But fans of the apples, cider, doughnuts and other treats will be glad to learn there'll be another early opening this year.

The Endicott landmark is scheduled to open this Thursday, August 4. That's actually one day earlier than last year's opening. The operating hours are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

The Cider Mill has been a fixture at its Nanticoke Avenue site for nine decades. In late 1971, the building housing the business was destroyed by fire. But a new structure was constructed the following year, allowing the tradition in the village's Union District to continue.

The Cider Mill has been a popular stop for children's field trips. Many adults also enjoy the opportunity to see how cider and doughnuts are produced.
