State Senator Fred Akshar (R . Binghamton)  says Vestal is getting $40,000 and Endicott $50,000 to purchase the new technology.

Supporters say “body cams” increase transparency and accountability and improve relationships between law enforcement and the community.

65 officers began using the body cameras on patrol and in the field this fall.

Officials say while the cameras are always on and rolling, the officer has control over when the camera starts to record and save footage.
