Social Distortion formed out of some high school acquaintances, lead by vocalist Mike Ness in 1978 out of Fullerton, California.

Throughout their history as a punk band, Mike Ness has been the only constant member of the band. Their current lineup is Ness as lead vocalist and lead guitarist, Johnny Wickersham on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Brent Harding on bass and backing vocals, and David Hildalgo Jr. on drums.

To date Social Distortion has seven studio albums, two compilations, one live albums, two dvd's and they are planning on releasing their eighth studio album sometime this year.

The band's third album which was released in 1990 under Epic records is known as their most popular. The self titled album boats songs such as "Ball and Chain," "Story of My Life," and a cover of Johny Cash's "Ring of Fire."
