The Broome County STOP-DWI Program is coordinating law enforcement agencies across Broome County with deployment of special DWI enforcement patrols throughout the holiday period.  Law enforcement is cracking down on impaired driving operators to help ensure area roadways will be as safe as possible.

Recent statistics show that many driving fatalities nationwide are caused by drunk-driving.  In 2013 during the period between December 18 and 31 there were 1,180 people killed in crashes around the nation.  Of those fatalities almost a third involved drunk-driving crashes.  In the time period between 2009 -2013 statistics show that 3,857 people killed in crashes that involved drivers with high blood alcohol concentrations.

Funding for the increased patrols and check-points is supported by the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  Information on the Broome-County STOP-DWI Program is available at: www.bcstopdwi.com.
