Former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan took the stage alongside a 13-year-old from Italy on Tuesday night, to play a set list of Metallica, Nirvana and yes, GNR covers. It was part of the boys wish with the Make-a-Wish foundation. Simone Capelli is battling bone cancer.

“Simone is just a cool kid, he is cooler than most.” McKagan told Seattle’s KING 5 news. “It’s not about me or any grown ups.” Since the boy speaks mostly Italian, the two rockers only spoke through the music, but the blonde bassist seemed as happy to be there as the teen.

Capelli arrived wearing a Metallica t-shirt, after a limosine pulled up to the Hard Rock Cafe in Seattle. He’s in a band in Italy and part of that group were flown in as well. Capelli got to choose the set list. “Tonight is about making him feel like a rock star,” Make-a-Wish Manager Jessie Elenbaas says in the video below.

“He is very fragile right now, but his prognosis is good. He is getting better. I hope this night helps cushion what he’s been going through.”

McKagan was joined by Seattle rock band Rewind to help Capelli.
