The New York Football Giants have earned the right to be the elite team in New York State (even though they play in New Jersey)  Their 5 trips to the Super Bowl with only one loss  (2000 to the Baltimore Ravens)

Like Buffalo and the Jets, Big Blue has had their share of lows including a 17 season stretch of not making into the post season, from 1964 when they went 2-10-2, to 1980 when they went 4-12-0, the teams were horrible and had many fans wondering if they would ever even make the playoffs.

In 1981 the Giants selected LB Lawrence Taylor as their number one draft pick, under Coach Ray Perkins the team went 9-7 and made the playoffs that year, but lost to Joe Montana and the 49ers in the divisional game.

In 1983 Bill Parcells took over the team as head coach, and fans were even more disappointed as the team went 3-12.

1984 saw the returned of Phil Simms who had an injury riddled career to this point, but things started to change and the team went 9 and 7 and made it to the post season after a 2 year absence.

They returned again in 1985 but faced the Chicago Bears in the divisional game and were buried 21 to nothing.

1986 brought the magic, after two consecutive divisional game losses, they finished the 86-87 season with 9 straight wins and annihilated the 49ers with a  49 to 3 divisional playoff win, then they shut out the redskins 20 to nothing and went on to beat John Elway and the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl.

I’ll never forget that game, I watched it my father and my brother, it was our weekly tradition for years.

4 years later they returned and defeated the Buffalo Bills, a game which many (including me) thought we were going to lose and Scott Norwood kicked a field goal with seconds left that sailed to the right of the goal posts.

The Giants returned in 2000 and were defeated by the Baltimore Ravens.

The Giants drafted Eli Manning in the 2004 draft and in 2007-08 and 2011-12 they defeated the New England Patriots in both Super Bowls, which included a blemish on New England’s undefeated 16 and 0 season in 2007.(heh heh heh)

This year the team is 2 and 2 but the last two games have been much more productive with a new offense scheme under a new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.

Can Eli and the team do it one more time? The season is still young

Go Giants.
