The announcement was made on Wednesday, that Syracuse University Coach, Jim Boeheim will retire after the 2017-18 season.

I can't imagine watching an SU basketball game, without his familiar face on the sidelines.

Jim Boeheim is as much an icon to NCAA basketball, as Tom Landry was to professional football. Boeheim came to Syracuse as a student in 1962, and never left.

Coach Boeheim has brought many exceptional players to the basketball program throughout his 39 years as coach, which includes nine regular season championships, five big east titles, 28 NCAA tournament appearances, and a national title in 2003.

The University thought it would be less distracting to the program to make the announcement now, to allow for a smooth transaction, and a positive end to such a distinguished career.

I have been an avid fan of the orange for several years. Jim Boeheim is the icon on the desktop of Syracuse sports, despite a few blemishes during his tenure, he will always be one of the greatest coaching minds of all time, and his presence will always be felt in the dome and beyond.

Jim Boeheim, an 'Orangeman' forever!
