In just over 7 weeks the New York Giants will play the first of four pre-season games, before the they open up the NFL season on Sunday, September 13th against Dallas.

Despite another disappointed season in which the Giants missed the playoffs again, the team gained some excitement with the emergence of Odell Beckham Jr.

Victor Cruz will also return this season bringing another spark to the Giants offensive.

The Giants will begin their second season under the new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. They have also started rebuilding their offensive line with their first round draft pick, tackle Ereck Flowers, to compliment another young pick from last year, tackle Justin Pugh.

If you look at Eli Manning's stats from last year, and keep in mind this was a brand new offense with an extremely banged up line, he threw 30 touchdowns and passed for 4400 yards, while throwing only 14 interceptions.

The key to success for the offensive is the protection. The development of that line with new pieces, remember Ben McAdoo's offensive calls from a quick release of the ball out of Eli's hands, so that could make a big difference this season.

The running game has to be at least moderate to allow for options, and to hold those linebackers and allow the Giant receivers to get a jump on the defense.

This could be an exciting year for Big Blue.

I still think Eli Manning is capable of leading this time to another championship with the right chemistry, and expectations are high this season.

We'll look at the Giants defense in an upcoming blog.
