Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards for the 1969 album, Let It Bleed, the song was written about the war in Vietnam during a very controversial time in our history.

Grand Funk Railroad covered it on the album Survival in 1971, it only went to number 61 on the Billboard US charts. However, this version features the very soulful voice of Mark Farner.
