Owego’s ‘Lights on the River’ Festival Dazzles People of All Ages
This is without a doubt, my favorite time of the year. I love Christmastime. I love baking and shopping and decorating and spending time with family and friends, but most of all, I love visiting outdoor festivals. If you do too, the place to be tonight is definitely the Village of Owego.
Owego will come to life with twinkling lights, activities for kids young and old, musical entertainment and a fireworks show at the end of the night with the 'Lights on the River' Festival this Friday, December 1st.
The fun kicks off at 4pm with activities such as make-and-take Christmas ornaments at Creative Joy. And you won't want to miss Santa's big flip switch, which will light up the village for the holiday season. That will happen at exactly 5:59pm in Courthouse Square.
Most restaurants and shops in the village will be open for business. Enjoy a BBQ at the Owego Elks or stop by a table and pick up some holiday food from a non-profit organization. There will be hot chocolate, hot cider, soup, cookies, and more.
The kids will be able to see live Reindeer in the lot at M&T Bank and from 5pm-7pm, kids can enjoy a visit with Rowdy from the Rumble Ponies on Lake Street. Your little ones will be able to write a letter to Santa and mail it in the special Rumble Ponies mailbox. You'll also be able to enjoy music through the village, as well as a juggler! Santa and Mrs. Claus will be hanging out at the Elks Lodge from 6:45pm-8pm.
Many of the downtown Owego businesses will also be offering specials and discounts during Lights on the River and the night will end with a big fireworks display over the river at 8pm.
