Do We See Marriage in a Negative Light?

This notion came up in a conversation with one of my friends recently and I honestly never thought about it until they brought it up.

Nowadays, we make so many jokes about getting married. I do it myself, quite often actually. We all joke that "Oh man now your life is over!" or "I'm going to marry my first husband for this....and my second for this..."

Is the reason divorce rates are so high possibly the cause that many of us somewhere along the way were taught to see marriage as negative instead of positive in our current society?

Look how many people see marriage as a joke now or never even want to get married? How to we get to this place and why? How do you feel about marriage?
