Times change and so does the landscape of every city, town and village on the planet. The Binghamton area is no different.

I've been living here since 1977 and have seen a lot of changes in the area. Businesses come and go, building are torn down and (mostly) replaced by something else. It's amazing how much has changed in the time I have been in the Binghamton area.

I thought about 5 buildings that are no longer here, and what stands in their place. I know there are so many more and would love you to add to the list. So, what buildings/businesses do you remember that were torn down/are no longer here? What do you miss about them?

    Magic City Ice Building

Magic City Ice on Front Street Binghamton had been shuttered for many years before being torn down last year. Currently there is nothing on that small sliver of property. It was originally built in 1924.

    East Middle School

Located on Robinson Street, East Middle School was eventually closed and the students moved to the former North High School building. It was torn down, and The Weis Food Market Plaza now occupies the space.

    Power and Light Company

Remember coming here to dance the night away? It eventually became The Woods and then was to be transformed into a Cheers chain restaurant/bar, but that never materialized. It's an empty lot now.

    The V Drive In

The V Drive In off the Vestal Parkway, Vestal, where many families and first dates enjoyed movies of the day...well those taking their date there probably didn't watch the movie so much. In it's place now is the Townsquare Mall.

    Arlington Hotel

This once popular hotel was located on the corner of Chenango and Lewis Streets, Binghamton. I wished I could have seen the building before it was torn down. Now it's Post Office property and parking lot.
