Early January will forever be remembered for the month we lost an icon, and it is also known for that same icon changing his name.

David Bowie released his first song in June of 1964 titled Liza Jane credited to Davie Jones and the King Bees. 2 more singles were to follow that year, with different band names - Manish Boys, and then Davy Jones and the Lower Third.

The name changes continued as David Bowie and the Lower Third, and then just David Bowie. We were always led to believe he changed is last name from Jones to Bowie as to not be confused with The Monkees Davy Jones.

We've been told that story was not true. The other explanation was one of two things -  David changed his last name to Bowie because of Jim Bowie, who was an expert with a knife, or that he simply love the knife itself.

No matter what name he chose or why, we all know the man was an amazing person in so many ways.

For today's Classic Rock Throwback Thursday, enjoy Davie Jones and The King Bees performing Liza Jane.
